Shannon’s focus and interest is in working with all people by treating the person, the being and the body through integrating counselling and bodywork therapies, to support clients in the area of their lives that may be presenting at that time as an ‘issue’, from there the focus is not on the issue itself, but on the whole person. This happens by recognising the clients strengths, values and the essence, not seeing the client as the ‘issue', and supporting clients in highlighting their next steps so that the sessions support change and evolution. In working with individuals, support is offered in valuing and enriching the clients relationship with self as well as enriching and developing relationships with other people at work, socially and in family life. Many people are carrying trauma, and also not feeling able to acknowledge their feelings and sensitivity in a world that often is pushing to be more, to do more rather than value what is already within, the sessions are to support all clients to feel at ease as who they are.
As a general counsellor, Shannon focusses on the areas of stress, anxiety, sleep, exhaustion, low self-esteem/self-worth, life transitions/change, couples/relationships, trauma, grief & parenting. This is combined with a women’s health focus on preconception, pregnancy, postpartum, infertility/fertility challenges, trauma, grief/loss associated with miscarriage, stillbirth, termination/medical termination. Shannon also works with women undergoing pregnancy challenges, such as complex medical conditions, congenital anomalies but also women who have experienced past trauma in birth, breastfeeding or in navigating through the health system.
Shannon has been working as a women’s health focussed complementary therapies practitioner since 2013. She is also a counsellor and registered midwife with a strength and interest in the areas of perinatal mental health and supporting women through counselling and bodywork prior to conception, in pregnancy and the postpartum.
