At Vyne Health, we support women through every stage of pregnancy with safe, gentle acupuncture tailored to your unique experience. Whether you’re managing early pregnancy symptoms, preparing for labour, or seeking to reduce stress and discomfort, our Gold Coast pregnancy acupuncture treatments are here to help.
Our AHPRA-registered acupuncturists Rachel Volp and Emily Warren use Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles and evidence-informed techniques to nurture comfort, hormonal changes, and emotional wellbeing from conception to birth.

Acupuncture is a natural, drug-free form of help that has been sought out for many years throughout pregnancy, especially for support of pregnancy-related symptoms. At Vyne Health, we support patients in the lead up to pregnancy and often find ourselves helping and supporting women with questions around nausea and morning sickness, fatigue and insomnia, sciatic pain and back pain, pelvic instability and hip pain, headaches and sinus congestion, stress and emotions, breech presentations, labour preparation, cupping and moxibustion. We are very passionate about helping answer questions surrounding these topics, but due to every pregnancy being varied and unique, we prefer to help in-person during your treatment so we can provide individualised answers, specific to your Chinese Medicine Pattern or Constitutional Diagnosis (i.e. tongue analysis or pulse analysis etc.) Each treatment is personalised based on your trimester, health history, and presenting symptoms, this ensures safety and comfort at all times.

From week 36 onward, we offer help with pre-labour acupuncture, that means acupuncture during the third trimester before your baby arrives. We are most passionate about this stage, as we know it is coming to the final stages of your pregnancy and this can be such a significant time in your life, and shift in your self, identity and or relationship or friendship dynamics. It is within this stage, we honour every ones journey as unique and help share resources or provide support to those in need to ensure they have a support system in place so they feel held during this special stage. Help might be, women health physiotherapists referrals helping provide education around birth and post natal recovery. Psychologist referrals to you are feeling supported emotionally pre and post birth. It is this stage our primary focus is to help prepare your body and mind for labour through gentle treatments and calm breathing methods to support you and your nervous system.

You can begin acupuncture treatment at any stage of your pregnancy. Many patients choose to start early, around 6–10 weeks. If you're experiencing nausea, please be mindful that travelling, especially by car, can sometimes worsen morning sickness due to motion sensitivity. Always listen to your body, and don’t hesitate to contact us if you’re feeling unwell or need to reschedule.
Some patients begin care in the preconception phase and return during the second trimester for support with stress management or to ease physical discomfort as their body adapts to pregnancy. Others continue right through to the third trimester, often starting weekly acupuncture from around 36 weeks as part of their journey into labour preparation.
Every pregnancy is unique, and we’re here to support you wherever you’re at in your journey.

Rachel and Emily work closely with GPs, obstetricians, midwives, and other allied health professionals to ensure your pregnancy care is coordinated and holistic. As lifelong learners, they regularly undertake training to advance their skills in Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture in areas of fertility, pregnancy, and women’s health.

FAQ
Is acupuncture safe during pregnancy?
Yes, Acupuncture is generally considered safe but occasionally (as with all health treatments) may be associated with possible adverse reactions in individual cases. Always ensure your practitioner is a trained and licensed professional. When delivered by a qualified practitioner, Chinese Medicine acupuncture is safe across all trimesters as we are trained in acupuncture points/locations of the body that should be avoided at certain stages throughout pregnancy. Our acupuncturists are fully qualified, AHPRA-registered, and experienced in pregnancy care.
Can acupuncture help with breech presentation?
Moxibustion is often recommended in acupuncture texts throughout breech presentations. We implement a Traditional Chinese Medicine technique called Moxibustion, traditional Chinese heat therapy usually in the form of the herb mugwort compressed into a cigar like moxa stick. The precise mechanism of how Moxibustion may effect a baby’s position remains unknown but moxa has been shown to emit long-wavelength infrared radiation (1) and it has been suggested that stimulation of acupuncture point BL 67 may stimulate the production of maternal hormones (placental oestrogens and prostaglandin), encouraging the lining of the uterus to contract which in turn may stimulate foetal activity (2). We start this gentle technique from 34–36 weeks.

When should I start labour supportive, preparation acupuncture?
We recommend starting weekly treatments from 36 weeks onward to help prepare the body for a smoother labour process knowing you are mentally and physically beginning to surrender and let go of expectations in the lead up to birth. We love helping our mums-to-be, feel as relaxed as possible and try to create a memorable experience for you every visit. Sessions are personalised to your history and preferences.
Will acupuncture help relieve pregnancy back pain?
Many patients present to Vyne Health due to experiencing significant sciatica, lower back pain, and pelvic discomfort throughout pregnancy. It is important to know that our acupuncture treatments are tailored to ensure your comfort and safety, using side-lying or supported positions as needed. We often support low back pain with a collaborative approach alongside Women’s Health Physiotherapists, Osteopaths and Chiropractors.
Do I need a referral for pregnancy acupuncture?
No referral is necessary. You can book directly via our website or phone. We’re happy to liaise with your care team if required.
